Turns out “Nothin’ on You” was not the only song that Lupe Fiasco originally recorded but was later snatched by B.o.B and turned into a smash hit by the Atlanta rapper. Recently, an “Airplanes” demo which features the “Lasers” rapper and Hayley Williams hit the web.
“Can’t be peaceful with a pistol in ya face/ Can’t beat the people, so you pickin’ on they place/ I jump to defend, I wage with a page/ my pen’s mightier than them and I got missiles on the stage,” Lupe raps his rhymes. As for Hayley, she sings the same chorus like the one featured in the B.o.B version.
Last March, Lupe said he fell into a deep depression after bosses at his record label gave “Nothin’ on You” to B.o.B. The Hip-Hop star wrote and recorded verses for the song in 2009, but the chairman of Atlantic Records told him his performance was no good and handed the track to another artist.
He hit rock bottom after losing the song. He said, “That was the tipping point. It was less about the bruised ego but more the audacity of it. It was mentally destructive. I say it with a certain laissez-faire now because I’m past it, but back then, hearin’ that s**t, it f**ked me up. I was super-depressed, lightly suicidal, at moments medium suicidal – and if not suicidal, willing to just walk away from it all completely.”
