Hollywood's Tom Hanks admires Aamir Khan’s work for society

Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks has praised actor Aamir Khan for his social awareness and effort to make a difference in Indian society.
Aamir has been actively involved with fighting social taboos through his show ‘Satyamev Jayate’.
Hanks, whose new film ‘Cloud Atlas’ is releasing in Indian theatres October 26, read about Aamir in the September 10 issue of the prestigious Time magazine, in which he was positioned as India’s “first superstar-activist”.

“I really admire the work that Aamir Khan is doing in India. Very few celebrities take the initiative of coming forward to change the society and he has done a remarkable job. It’s the ‘giving-back’ that’s tough,” the American actor said in a statement.
“Aamir seems to understand the influencing power of being a celebrity and is using it to act as a catalyst for change in society, something that definitely deserves both appreciation and support from all quarters,” Hanks said.
Aamir’s talk show started with the issue of female foeticide and traversed over various burning social issues informing, educating, sensitising and touching audiences’ hearts before ending its 13-week journey with the spotlight on the right to equality.

The show went on air on May 6 and in episodes after episode, Aamir brought forth unknown facts related to child sex abuse, medical malpractice, manual scavenging and dowry. He followed it up off the screen by meeting concerned leaders to ensure the problems are resolved.
The actor has said that he may come back with the second season of the show.
