Since the debut of TEDx events in Pakistan with TEDxLahore; the name TEDx is fast becoming well known in Pakistan. TEDxKinnaird first took place in February 2010 and TEDxKinnaird 2011 held up to the standard it set for itself last year and broke new ground by putting together a memorable evening on February 19, 2011 at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore.
Themed “Rethinking Us”; this year Pakistan’s only university-styled TEDx event; was organized yet again in its entirety by young students spearheaded by a strong team under Curator Areej Mehdi. This year the organizing team targeted a more youth oriented audience. The speakers were not people who everyone may have heard of but their ideas deserved a stage.
Speakers included Game Designer Jazib Zahir; Blogger and Artist Mehreen Kasana; Laal Theatre founder Younas Chowdary; Journalist Sonya Rehman; Photographer Natasha Noorani; Student Elaine Alam; Engineer Faisal Mehmood & Hacker Zubair Khan.
From what can be seen from the attendees’ feedback, the event was a resounding success. Everything from the stage design to the perfectly delivered talks to the meeting of minds at the networking break highlighted the team’s careful planning and management.
