Rihanna and Eminem are together again for a second round on the newly leaked “Love The Way You Lie (Part 2),” but this time around Rihanna is having her say.
The pop princess paints a dark and almost twisted picture of a woman being abused but is torn between the love she feels for her broken beau and leaving to spare her own sanity. “Even angels have their wicked schemes/and you take that to new extremes/but you’ll always be my hero/even though you lost your mind,” Rihanna sings in a beautiful soft voice before the original chorus kicks in over a louder, more anthemic marching band beat.
On the second verse and bridge, she reveals the part she plays in the vilotile relationship, even admitting the violence and abuse is what she’s strangely drawn to. “It’s sick that all these battles are what keeps me satisfied,” she sings. “…maybe I’m a masochist/I try to run/But I don’t want to ever leave.”
Rihanna singing in such a delicate voice throughout the track is a real winner, but what truly takes the song to new heights is Eminem’s brutal new verse. It’s chilling how insane, yet so poetic and honest it is.
“Love The Way You Lie (Part 2)” will appear on Rihanna’s new album, Loud, out November 16.
