Teenager Lorde has jumped to the top of the U.S. pop charts a day after making her American Tv debut.
The New Zealand-based singer/songwriter’s Royals has knocked Miley Cyrus‘ Wrecking Ball off the number one spot following her first Tv spot in the U.S. on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday (Oct 1st 2013).
At 16, she becomes the youngest solo artist to reach the Billboard Hot 100’s top spot since Tiffany, who also was 16 when I Think We’re Alone Now hit number one in 1987. Ironically, Lorde manages the feat on Tiffany’s birthday.
It’s another strong week for the ladies on the countdown – Katy Perry’s Roar stands proud at two, while Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball drops to three.
Drake’s Hold On, We’re Going Home rounds out the new top four. The hip-hop star ties pal Lil Wayne’s record for the most Hot 100 chart hits in a week – he appears on 12 tracks on the countdown.
