Lady Gaga has knocked talk show host Oprah Winfrey from the top of Forbes’ annual celebrity power list.
The US singer, who headlined Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Carlisle at the weekend, moved up four places this year in the top 100.
Justin Bieber goes in at number three and Taylor Swift is at seven.
The Forbes Celebrity 100 list measures power by entertainment-related earnings, media visibility and social media popularity.
Forbes editor Dorothy Pomerantz said: “Lady Gaga beat Oprah this year because of her social media power.
“She can use Twitter and Facebook to work the ‘little monsters’ into a frenzy that leads to record sales and media attention.
“She’s the best example of how celebrities will need to manage their careers in the coming years.”
Forbes rated the American singer/songwriter number one, estimating her earnings in the past 12 months as $90 million (£55m) and she also has 34 million Facebook fans and more than 10 million Twitter followers.
