The British royal Kate Middleton was admitted to the Lindo Wing of London’s St Mary’s Hospital after she went into labour in the early hours of Saturday.

A spokesperson for the couple confirmed that the Duchess gave birth to a daughter and is doing well following the delivery.

The representative writes, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am. The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke Of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales & The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & members of both families have been informed. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

The Duchess was said to be a week overdue, and royal fans, who have convened outside the hospital eagerly awaiting the good news, cheered and clapped as the news was announced.

It is the couple’s second child – their son Prince George was born in 2013.
